Depression is one of the most serious mental health challenges in today’s world. Many people struggle with sadness, stress, loneliness, fear, and emotional pain. Sometimes, these feelings become so strong that they begin to affect everyday life. Understanding depression and finding the right support is important for living a healthier and more balanced life.

The book Depression and Alternative Therapy, written by Dr. Santosh Kumar Vishvakarma and Dr. Prabhanjan Tiwari, offers readers a simple but meaningful way to understand depression and explore different approaches to mental well-being.

The book explains that depression is not just about feeling sad. It can affect a person’s thoughts, emotions, behaviour, relationships, sleep, and physical health. Many factors, including biological changes, personal experiences, social situations, and lifestyle habits, may contribute to depression.

One of the most interesting aspects of this book is its focus on alternative therapies. Along with discussing depression from a psychological and medical perspective, the authors explore practices such as yoga, meditation, mindfulness, Ayurveda, healthy nutrition, physical exercise, and positive thinking.

These practices may help people manage stress, develop emotional balance, and improve their overall well-being. The book encourages readers to understand the connection between the mind and body and the importance of building healthy daily habits.

Another important message is that mental health care should not be limited to one approach. The authors highlight the value of combining suitable complementary practices with conventional medical and psychological treatment. Alternative therapies can provide additional support, but they should not replace professional care when it is needed.

The authors bring valuable academic knowledge and professional experience to this subject.

Dr. Santosh Kumar Vishvakarma is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology at Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar. With more than two decades of academic and research experience, he has worked extensively in psychology, counselling, mental health, and the relationship between yoga and psychological well-being.

Dr. Prabhanjan Tiwari is a psychologist, holistic-health advisor, motivational speaker, and guest lecturer. His experience in clinical psychology, yoga, Ayurveda, physiotherapy, and integrative health gives him a multidisciplinary perspective on mental and physical wellness.

Together, their backgrounds provide a strong foundation for exploring depression through both modern psychological knowledge and traditional Indian wellness practices.

The book can be valuable for psychology students, teachers, counsellors, researchers, yoga practitioners, therapists, and general readers who want to learn more about emotional health.

Most importantly, Depression and Alternative Therapy encourages greater awareness, understanding, and compassion toward people experiencing depression. It reminds readers that mental well-being deserves attention, care, and continued support.

More than a discussion of depression, this book offers a thoughtful message about self-awareness, emotional resilience, and the importance of caring for both mind and body.
